Shrimp “Vannamei” VS “Sea caught”
Shrimps are nutritious, low-calorie alternative to meat. They are a good source of vitamins B12 and D, iodine, iron, selenium and zinc. The demand for this amazing product has been rising rapidly throughout the years.
There are many different varieties of shrimp but the main are “Sea caught” and “Vannamei”. Their difference is quite simple; where they live!
Sea caught shrimps have been caught straight from sea and lived all their life in the wild life eating natural food. The meat is firmer because they live in a world where water currents are a fact of life. They are in an environment with no physical boundaries. The taste is also better for those same reasons. Interestingly, wild shrimp cook up with more color than their farmed relatives due to their natural diet vs pelletized shrimp food.
But none of the facts above mean that farm grown shrimps are bad. In fact, they are just as nutritious and healthy. Vannamei shrimps are grown in big pools that are modified to replicate the natural habitat that the shrimp are used to living in. This type of producing shrimp hurts the environment less because in its process other sea life is not accidentally caught and wasted.
